Many of the people I work with write non-fiction blog posts and books. That’s all well and good, but humans are story-telling beings. Switching contexts into narrative-based storytelling and/or poetic language can amplify the power of your logical argument.
The purpose of this exercise is to do a thought experiment. What if you weren't writing a blog post, an essay, or a book, but instead, were writing something more narrative?
Use one or all of the following questions as writing prompts or creative triggers.
These exercises force you to turn their things on their head, and focus on narrative skills over logical skills. Ultimately, though, the point isn't to switch from being, say, an essayist to being a poet. Instead, the goal is to recognize the opportunity to Enter Narrative Mode and weave story and narrative into the work that you're trying to do. When you do, you'll find that you have more fun, and your readers will enjoy your work more, learn more, and share your work with friends. Above all, have fun!
